I think mandating a particular Linux distro for a school is probably
not the way to go. Depending on the stuidents competency
thellikes/dislikes they are likely to selltle with one or more
distros. When it comes initially conducting a workshop by LKLUG we
could decide on a particular distro depending on a school. I think it
will be only a mater of time before there are some guys who's already
used Redhat or Fedora in which case something like Debian or Gentoo or
even Slackware might be appealing.
If we go back to the begining of the thread the issue is whether it
*really makes sense* to go with Redhat Enterprise sort of version. Do
schools really need enterprise support? I dont think they do let alone
most SMEs :) What we should come up with a Linux strategy for schools
that focuses on applications and desktop enviroments/howtos so that
students/staff can help them selves and truely be FREE!
