HI Dr. Nimal,
Start gedit and right click on it. Now you can select the input method -
select the sinhala input method. You can figure out the key combinations
from the following:

These key combinations are very easy to get used to. Anuradha has done a
great job developping this input module.

To get the menus on gedit in sinhala:

export LANG=si
export LC_ALL=si_LK.UTF-8
